What is Centro Scout Sant’Antimo?
A genesis
- The Centro Scout Sant’Antimo is immersed in the uncontaminated nature of Siena surroundings and is set among beautiful places (Crete senesi, Val d’Orcia, Monte Amiata, Maremma). The Sant’Antimo Scout Centre is set very closed to Sant’Antimo Abbey, a beautiful Romanesque church built in 1118.
- The Centro Scout Sant’Antimo was founded as an answer to the many requests from Clans (in Italy youths from 16 to 22 years old) or Leaders Groups that during the past years have come to the Sant’Antimo Scout Centre looking for spurs to strengthen their faith and their choices.
- That’s why in September 1986 it was decided to organise a good welcome to the many scout groups coming to Sant’Antimo. That happened also thanks to the Arcivescovo of Siena – Mons. Castellano – who encouraged this initiative.
- Day by day it was possible to find in the centre a more precise style to welcome the scout groups and it was also possible to focus proposals aimed at meeting their needs.
A warm welcome for everybody?
- Since when it was founded the Centro Scout Sant’Antimo has been opened to the scout groups of any association: it is an opportunity of meeting many Boy Scouts/Girl Guides and youths from all over Europe.
- What makes the scout groups coming from all over Europe feel close each other is their scout promise and what makes them live rich experiences is their variety of styles and traditions (different associations, different nationalities, different educational styles…) The groups accept this challenge respecting the other groups’ traditions and styles.
- The Centro Scout Sant’Antimo is open to boys and girls of many different ages: the youngest ones, the teenagers, the youths, and of course their leaders. But you can mainly find activities especially aimed at meeting the needs of teenagers and youths from 14 to 22 and of the leaders in general.
An educational proposal?
The Centro Scout Sant’Antimo is aim is to welcome every Boy Scout and Girl Guide and his/her educational style and then meet his/her personal growth:
- first of all meeting the youths as a single man or woman, developing his/her personality and his/her personal responsibility to the choices of his/her life
- second to meet all the youths as Christians, awakening their faith’s gift with the help of deep proposals of catechesis, so that they can make their way to Christ and make deep and courageous choices in a world that doesn’t stimulates faith at all.

- One of the means that the Centro Scout Sant’Antimo uses to reach the youths is the charm of the beauty of the valley where the abbey is set. The harmony of nature and silence you can feel in and outside the abbey helps rediscovering yourself and God. The beauty of the place works as a loudspeaker of God’s Word, so that it gets to the hearts to make every boy and girl bright and strong in his/her life choices.
- To fit in with such a beauty it is necessary to truly live the scout style in its simplicity, essentiality and requirements (it is therefore important, for example, to follow the scout law, to wear the uniform which is the language we use to speak to those who look at us, to respect the silence of the night and of the nature in order to meet the natural rhythm of the place…)
